Before and After; Sprinkler Edition

May 6, 2010

I love playing with photos, and maybe one day, I’ll actually figure it out!

Pixel Perfect offers a great chance to see how other people edit their photos.  You should have a visit, and check out some really cool edits.

Here’s my edit for the week. I used Lightroom and Photoshop Elements.   I took this with a Nikon D5000,  with a 35mm f1.8 Nikon lens.

Here he is,  enjoying the slip ‘n’ slide.  But, in real life, he didn’t look nearly this dull.

So, I boosted that color a little in Lightroom.

And cropped it a little tighter.   Cutting Sam’s hand off was really bad composition.  And Lord knows, I want this child to have both of his hands.  But, I thought that trying to photoshop fingers might be better left to the professionals!

The crop still didn’t leave him much room to breathe, so I stretched the background a little.  What do you think?

Which edit do you like?  I’d love some suggestions for making this a better edit.  I’m always thrilled when I get them!

I love the final one. Love the color changes in your 2nd one. I have no clue when it comes to editing and I noticed your sons expression more than the missing fingers. =0) I think the crop was nice as it really focused on your sons delight.

They are both nice but I think I like the colors of the last one better. Congrats on winning last week!

Hello, I am new at this. Thanks for saying which camera you have.

I really like the last one, but I also like to see your variants and your trials through your editing.

    Have a good day. xxx

I like the last one. Looks like it would make a fun blog banner!

They all look great. The first one looked like as if it could have been raining if you hadn’t moved down past his head. Love this edit!

    Love the final one!

My fave is the last one, great edit! And it definitively makes the ‘missing hand’ less noticeable 😉 I didn’t know you could stretch a photo…

Thanks, I think it’s my favorite too!
I didn’t stretch the whole photo, or he would have gotten distorted, but chose the left side with a rectangular marquis tool and then stretched it a little. I hope the water doesn’t look funny.

I love, love, love the final image. You did such an amazing job! Just wow!

I like them all! I think I am odd man out, but I actually like the second one where the colors are more vibrant, but you can still see his shorts. Just me. The last one is pretty great too.

Congrats for winning last week! I think you have editing figured out! 🙂

I love the stretch of the last edit. I would have not thought of the hand until you pointed it out. Great color boost too!

My fave would be the last one. ^_^ Good work! 🙂

Love this, especially the way you stretched the background!!

I love them both. I love the look of delight on his face. I think I like the second one better..only because I can see more of him. You do such a great job, LL!! Congrats on your win last week! It’s about time!

What a great idea to stretch the background!!! Beautiful edit!

definitely the last one…you have more water, and there’s more movement in that water…gives the whole photo the feeling of fast motion, which i’m sure there was. great capture, and nice edit.

Congrats on getting “most favorite” last week!

    I love the last one!!!

What a great picture. I love how you caught the water droplets. I love the last one!

I love the last edit where you stretched the background. On that one, accidentally cutting off his fingers flows more with the movement of the photo … if that makes any sense, lol!

Final edit. I don’t know about any of the technical stuff, but it sure is a beautiful picture. In fact they all are!

I’m the worst picture taker ever….you rock, girl! I like your finished product. I like all the little water droplets; they stand out and you can see why he’s so happy! Good job 😉

Such a sweet photo! I love how you brightened up the picture. The last on is my favorite.
You gotta love the warm weather!

Here is the website that I got the Stellar Utility-Snap preset.

I downloaded all three presets and use them quite often.

Thank you so much! I appreciate it. Downloaded them tonight and they look great!

Fantastic Edit! I loooove the last one with the stretched background. Way to make the colors pop and the clarity on the droplets is beautiful!

  23. May 6, 2010 9:44 pm

They are all gret! What a fun day in the sprinkler (we were wearing winter jackets and hats today 😦 I like the last one the best, I think it has just enough background to see what’s going on, but not distract you.

  24. May 7, 2010 12:52 am

I love the second one, the way the colors are. I also think the last one turned out cool! I am so impressed. I know absolutely nothing about photo editing!

Love it! All those drops of water look amazing! And I think the stretched background worked perfectly… I wouldn’t have even thought to do that!

You should really put this up on one or all of the photo reseller websites like istock, 123rf, shutterstock, etc.
