What I Hope You’ve Learned Over Summer Vacation

July 16, 2010

Happiness is always right in front of you, if you’ll just jump in!

You are every bit as cool as you think you are.

And you’re smart too.

But, just because you’re smart, it doesn’t give you permission to be snarky. Cause, snarky is just snarky, whether you’re cool or smart or not.

When you decide to take the plunge, it’s more fun with a buddy.

Believe you can fly, because with a little confidence, you probably can.

A little “wild” is not only acceptable, but often preferable.

Don’t worry.

Good things take time.

Just take small steps.

Sometimes, things are going to be rolling along smoothly.  And you’re going to feel restless and bored. And that’s going to leave you a little anxious.

Seriously consider the pros and cons before  bailing.

Sometimes, getting to where you want to go is going to be a journey.

But, getting there is so worth it.

Other times, you’ll look before you leap and you’ll be asking for trouble.  Expect some close calls. But, know that it’s natural and a bump up or two is how you learn.

Curiosity is a good thing.

Finding someone to explore with is even better.

Sometimes you’re going to need help.

And even with help, you may wipe out anyway.

And that’s okay, as long as you keep your sense of humor.  Laugh at yourself every chance you get.  It makes the crashes infinitely more bearable.

Enjoy the simple things.  Because, they’re usually the best things.

Taking advantage of the little people, though enjoyable, is kinda wrong.

And though the victimized “little person” may not know they’re being taken advantage of, Kharma will eventually step in.

And land you on your backside.

Sometimes, things just come easily.

You’re totally allowed to feel giddy, even a tad goofy, when they do.

And above all, relax. It’s all good.

Hope you’re milking every last bit of the good out of your summer!

Enjoy it!

In the spirit of full disclosure, I need to say, one of Mack’s teeth(in the “wild” picture) is a permanent tooth.  The other is a baby tooth.  Looks weird to us too.  The baby tooth finally gave up the ghost a day or so ago.  And we were all thrilled.  The top picture shows the new  snaggle toothed grill.

Also, the sand castle was not done by me.  I have ADD and getting through a blog post takes long enough, thank you very much.

***The use of “Snarky” was thanks to the nerd mafia. My family. Notice the badge, all I had to do was almost feed a portion of my family to sharks to become a “made man.”  Totally worth it!

Gah, that close-up picture with the glasses is TO DIE FOR. I want to print it off and put it on my picture corkboard. It’s giggle-inducing.

Looks like you’ve had one great summer (so far!). What I learned this summer? Blogging is a full-time job. And mango Italian ice should be eaten daily.

    Big love, lady!

I don’t get the whole sharks comment at the end. But I was thinking about sharks as your kids were surfing. You are such a better mom than I am. I would be a nervous freaking wreck just sure as can be that Jaws is in there.

I love this post. Love your pictures. Heck, I may be a freak, but I just LOVE you!

I have never been to Surfside, but a few years back my family had the best summer vacation in Emerald Isle (which I think is not too far from Surfside if memory serves me well).

This post is so good it should be published. It’s simply awesome!

OK, when I have my baby, I am going to need you to come to Alaska to be my professional photographer. You think you can make that work? Great. Thanks! 🙂

I love this post! Except I have to admit that I was looking for sharks in the surfing pics!!

So many good things for all of us to remember, even when the summer is eventually over.
